There are those who yearn to master the world,
To bend it to their desires.
I do not think that they will much succeed.

The world is a sacred vessel, not to be tampered with.
Indeed, those who would run it destroy it,
And those who would seize it lose it.

Thus:
Sometimes one leads;
Sometimes one follows.
Sometimes one breathes easy;
Sometimes one breathes hard.
Sometimes one is strong;
Sometimes one is weak.
Sometimes one does damage;
Sometimes one is oneself damaged.

Therefore:
The sage rejects excess,
Rejects extravagance,
